Mykeerah Zarazua was elected by the City Council on May 1, 2019 to fill a vacancy left by previous Alderperson Heidi Oberstadt. She serves on the Board of Public Works and the Personnel Committee. In addition to her alderperson duties, Mykeerah is a 2019 UW-Stevens Point graduate of the Sociology and Social Work program. She is also attending UW-Oshkosh to obtain a Master’s degree in Social Work.
Mykeerah has over twenty years of experience working with adults with disabilities in a variety of roles, including as a job coach, a case manager, and owner of an adult family home. In 2018, she made a career change to being an advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. She continues to strive to be a voice for those who often are not able to speak for themselves, a role that carries over into the position of public office.
Being new to local government, Mykeerah is excited about learning as much as possible, connecting with as many people in her district as she can, and being a part of the great developments in progress for Stevens Point. She is passionate about the area, having been a resident of District 4 since 1999, excluding a brief move to Whiting.
In her free time, Mykeerah enjoys spending time with her spouse and three children, traveling whenever possible. She also is a fan of hot summer days, SPASH football and basketball, large dogs, and the long-forgotten art of writing letters.
