October 7-13 is Fire Prevention Week and the Stevens Point Fire Department is again sponsoring a Fire Prevention Poster Contest. This year's campaign message, "Have 2 Ways Out," focuses on the importance of having a home fire escape plan that prepares your family to think fast and get out quickly when the smoke alarm sounds. Having two ways out is a key part of the plan if your first escape route is blocked by smoke or flames.

The contest is open to all children in Grades 1 through 6. Each Stevens Point area school was invited to submit one male and one female winner from each grade level for a maximum of 12 posters per school. Schools will judge the posters on artistic ability and, more importantly, on how the poster presents the fire prevention theme for this year.

The finalists selected will be honored with a pizza party at SPFD Headquarters on Friday, October 19. The students are invited to ride to and from the pizza party in a fire truck or ambulance.
