[ARCHIVED] Deer Management Committee Seeks Funding Support

Due to the downturn in the economy, the Deer Management Committee’s budget for 2012 was reduced to zero. You may make a contribution toward a $3,000 segregated Deer Management Fund for 2012 that will be maintained by the City Treasurer.

Under the direction of the City of Stevens Point, the Deer Management Committee has been culling antlerless deer within the City limits for approximately 12 years. Their objective is to achieve a balance between those residents who like deer and those who fear car-deer crashes. A balance is also sought between residents who like to see deer and the number of complaints about deer eating their gardens and shrubs.

The Committee was working within a budget of $3,000 per year. Due to the downturn in the economy, the Deer Management Committee’s budget for 2012 was reduced to zero. The Committee is offering you an opportunity to make a contribution toward a $3,000 segregated Deer Management Fund for 2012 that will be maintained by the City Treasurer.

The Deer Management Committee hires deer cullers to use archery tackle to cull antlerless deer. The culled deer are given to a food pantry in Portage County that is willing to assume the cost of processing the deer. The processed meat is then used to supplement the diets of residents who are struggling financially to put food on their tables.

Checks for the Deer Management Fund should be made out to the City Treasurer with "Deer Management" written in the memo section. If you are willing to make a contribution, please mail such checks to:
