The City has received a check for $225,640 from Focus on Energy for a methane/natural gas-fueled electric generator installed at the Wastewater Treatment Facility, which will burn digester gas (methane) produced there.

Power produced by the generator will typically be used to offset power purchased from WPS. However, there will be instances when the generator produces more power than required by the treatment plant, and the excess power will be exported to the utility grid. It also has a secondary purpose of serving as an emergency generator.

The generator will be capable of continuous operation at around 55 to 100% with normal gas production. There will be an approximate savings of 75% of the electric usage at the wastewater treatment facility; and an estimated saving of 1,000 tons of carbon annually.
