[ARCHIVED] Manganese Sediment in some City Water

The manganese sediment being found in drinking water some areas is a naturally-occurring product in groundwater which is always in the water mains but has been stirred up in the large mains and is causing some problems in certain businesses and homes.

Manganese sediment is showing up in some areas of the City in the drinking water. This is a naturally occurring product in groundwater which is always in the water mains and, with some high usage in the past couple of weeks, has gotten stirred up in the large mains and is causing some problems in certain businesses and homes.

Please be assured this is not a health issue but rather an aesthetic one.

If you are experiencing this problem, please try to not use large amounts of water or do laundry until it clears up.

The Stevens Point Water Department apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused. Be assured we are steadfastly working on a solution to this temporary situation.

If you have any questions, please call 715-345-5260.
