[ARCHIVED] Arbor Day in Iverson Park Saturday May 5

The Forestry Dept.'s Arbor Day community tree planting will be Saturday, May 5 from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at the open shelter in Iverson Park. Bring a shovel and pack a lunch. Explore the park after planting a tree and picnicking.

Wind storms destroyed hundreds of large trees in Stevens Point's city parks last Summer. To help replace those trees, the City of Stevens Point Forestry Department will host an Arbor Day Ceremony and community tree planting event on Saturday, May 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the open shelter in Iverson Park near the park's Highway 66 entrance.

All families are encouraged to bring a shovel and pack a lunch. After helping plant trees, families can eat the lunch they packed and then explore and enjoy Iverson Park.

At 10:00 a.m., a Mayoral Proclamation will be read to officially declare May 5 as Arbor Day in Stevens Point. Those in attendance will then break up into groups and help plant trees throughout the park. Forestry students from Mid-State Technical College and University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, members of the Aldo Leopold Audubon Society, and Stevens Point Forestry Department personnel will assist in planting the trees. Students from SPASH and the Amherst Tree Board will also participate in the planting project.
