[ARCHIVED] CodeRED Program Continues in Portage County

Portage County Emergency Management recently renewed the contract for emergency notification services in the county. In an emergency, the CodeRED service is used to place telephone calls to residents in the affected area and provide them with information.

Portage County Emergency Management recently renewed the contract for emergency notification services in the county. In an emergency, the CodeRED service is used to place telephone calls to residents in the affected area and provide them with information.

“Last year we used CodeRED to locate two missing elderly men, provide updated information during the severe storm in July, and announce school closings,” said Sandra Curtis, Portage County Emergency Management Director. “It’s a valuable tool that helps us keep citizens informed.”

“This system allows us to telephone all or targeted areas of the County in case of an emergency
situation that requires immediate action, “said Curtis. “It delivers a recorded message to a live person or an answering machine, making three attempts to connect to any number.”

This service is supported by the City of Stevens Point, Portage County Emergency Management,
Portage County Public Health, Portage County Sheriff’s Office, the Almond-Bancroft School District, Consolidated Water Power Company, St. Paul’s Lutheran School, the Tomorrow River School District, UW-Stevens Point, the Village of Plover and a generous donation from CN Railroad.

Anyone residing in Portage County who is not currently receiving CodeRED alerts can register online. Residents can also sign up to receive weather alerts.

SIgn up for CodeRED alerts.
