A host of appointments take place for a variety of City citizen committees, boards & commissions in April. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age and a City resident. Experience or interest in the oversight topic is helpful, but not necessary.
Stevens Point has been actively trying to get more people involved in their local government. Transparency, access to participate, and diversification have been driving forces to that end.
“We want you to get involved. A desire to help your community is the only prerequisite,” said Mayor Mike Wiza. “You don’t need any special degree or background, just a desire to listen and act on behalf of your city.”
Some of the upcoming available seats are on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Street safety Commission, Board of Appeals, Historic Preservation and Design Review, Parks Commission, Police and Fire Commission, Transportation Commission, and Tourism Commission. Brief descriptions of duties and responsibilities for most committees are available on the application.
Anyone interested in serving should fill out the short application and include a cover letter explaining any relevant experience or qualifications. Deadline for the applications is April 6, 2021. Direct the application and cover letter to the Mayor’s Office or the City Clerk at 1515 Strongs Ave. See https://stevenspoint.com/82/Boards-Commissions for more information.
