[ARCHIVED] Release of Sex Offender to Stevens Point: Jeremy M. Smith

A Sex Offender will be released in Stevens Point on May 7, 2019. The sex offender in the attached bulletin, Jeremy M. Smith, has been convicted of 2nd Degree Sexual Assault and Tampering with a GPS Tracking Device. He is NOT wanted by the Police.

Jeremy M. Smith entered a gas station and grabbed the adult female stranger clerk from behind and attempted to drag her into the restroom to sexually assault her. The victim escaped by using force. Other conviction behaviors include Jeremy M. Smith touching the breasts and buttocks of a 15 year old acquaintance. The victim said, "No" and Jeremy M. Smith grabbed the victim around the neck and attempted to kiss her. 

On 9-10-2002, Jeremy M. Smith was convicted in Portage County for sexual assault. On 4-30-2013, he was again convicted in Portage County for tampering with his GPS tracking device. Jeremy M. Smith has served his sentence imposed on him and will be released from prison back to Portage County on May 7, 2019.

Upon release from prison, Jeremy M. Smith will be living at 1019 Arlington Place, Stevens Point, WI. He will be placed on supervision with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC), and monitored by Sex Offender Agent Specialists with the Division of Community Corrections, in Portage County. Jeremy M. Smith is also subject to lifetime GPS monitoring. 

Jeremy M. Smith has additional conditions to not have any unsupervised contact with minors; not be in taverns/bars/liquor stores; and not to consume alcohol or drugs. Jeremy M. Smith is to comply with standard sex offender rules and to cooperate with electronic monitoring, including complying with all requirements and lifetime registrant of the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry. Jeremy M. Smith’s current address and any change of address will be updated and available online by accessing the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry at www.widocoffenders.org.

Sex offenders have always lived in our communities; but it was not until the Sex Offender Registration and Community Notification Law was enacted that law enforcement was able to share this information with the community. Abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate or harass registered sex offenders with NOT be tolerated. 

The Stevens Point Police Department, is releasing this information pursuant to Wisconsin State Statute 301.46(2m) which authorizes law enforcement agencies to inform the public of a sex offender’s release/residence when, in the discretion of the agency, the release of information will enhance public safety, protection and awareness. Jeremy M. Smith has been convicted of a sex offense.
