The Stevens Point Fire Department is participating in Portage County's "Keep the Wreath Green" program by featuring a special wreath on our Fire stations.
For many years, all Portage County Fire Departments have participated in a holiday season educational campaign designed to bring attention to the loss our communities suffer from the devastation of hostile fires.
The goal of this program, which runs from Thanksgiving through Christmas, is to educate the public to this loss and to realize that fire does not care about political boundaries - it hurts everyone.
A green bulb on the wreath at our Fire Station will be replaced with one red bulb every time there is a structural fire loss (as defined by the National Incident Reporting System) in Portage County. All wreaths in the county will, therefore, be displaying the same number of red bulbs. The white bulb at the top of the wreath symbolizes the loss of fallen firefighters,
The Stevens Point Fire Department wishes you a safe holiday season, and please be mindful to Keep the Wreath Green.
