[ARCHIVED] Fire Prevention Week

Mayor Halverson has proclaimed October 5-11 as Fire Prevention Week for the City of Stevens Point. He would ask that all residents of Stevens Point participate in this observance by renewing their efforts to prevent fires and their tragic consequences.

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, Fire takes lives and devastates communities in the United States costing us billions of dollars each year; and

WHEREAS, As we mark Fire Prevention Week we recognize the selflessness of those who answer the call to fight these blazes placing themselves in danger to help others; and

WHEREAS, Proper installation, testing and maintenance of smoke alarms listed by qualified testing laboratories are part of a system of fire protection; and

WHEREAS, Developing a home fire escape plan, with two ways out of each room and an outside meeting place, and practicing it twice a year with every member of the household, are critical to escaping a fire safely; and

WHEREAS, This week’s theme, "Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month", reminds us of the importance of installing and maintaining smoke alarms in the places we live and work; and

WHEREAS, This year, our Nation has suffered tragic losses as wildfires ravage States across our country. As wildfires increase in frequency and intensity in a changing climate, fire prevention and planning only becomes more urgent; and

WHEREAS, The fire service of Stevens Point, Wisconsin is committed to the safety of life and property from the devastating effects of fire; and

WHEREAS, The members of the fire service are joined by other concerned citizens of Stevens Point, Wisconsin, as well as other emergency service providers and safety advocates, businesses, schools, service clubs, and organizations in their fire safety efforts; now therefore

I, Andrew J. Halverson, Mayor of the City of Stevens Point, do hereby proclaim the week of October 5-11, 2014, as FIRE PREVENTION WEEK

On Sunday, October 12, 2014, in accordance with Public Law 107-51, the flag of the United States will be flown at half-staff at all Federal office buildings in honor of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service.

I call upon all residents of the City of Stevens Point to participate in this observance by renewing their efforts to prevent fires and their tragic consequences.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Stevens Point to be affixed, this ninth day of October, in the year of our Lord, two thousand fourteen.
