[ARCHIVED] Portage County Safety Event Planned for May 21

Portage County and Mark Toyota of Plover will be sponsoring a Safety Day on Saturday, May 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mark Toyota of Plover on the corner of County Road B and I-39. The event is free and open to the public.

Child and family safety is the focus of activities at the fair. Parents can have their children fingerprinted and have a child photo ID card made. Sparky the Fire Dog will make an appearance, and there will be coloring books, stickers, and other giveaways for the kids. The Boys & Girls Club of Portage County will offer face painting and balloons.

Visitors will have a chance to tour some of our County’s Emergency Vehicles. The County’s new Rapid Response Unit, a 2011 Toyota 4Runner sponsored by Mark Toyota, will also be on display at the event. There will be a special dedication for the 2011 Toyota 4Runner vehicle, donated in part by Toyota, at noon.

Other free activities will include: “Spot the Tot” demonstration by the Portage County Child Passenger Safety Association and a K-9 presentation by the Portage County Sheriff’s Department will conducted. Alcohol awareness goggle demonstrations, bicycle safety demonstration, disaster preparedness, and other safety information will also be available. Kids can meet 911 Dispatchers as well.

While at the fair visitors can register for CodeRED, the county’s emergency notification system. The Plover Fire Department will give fire extinguisher demonstrations and hands-on training at 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The American Red Cross, Portage County Emergency Services, and Area Fire Departments will have displays at the fair.

Visitors will also be able to sign up to win door prizes! There will be free oil changes from Mark Toyota, Toyota apparel, emergency kits, and items from the American Red Cross, bike helmets, fire extinguishers, carbon monoxide detectors and smoke detectors up for grabs!

A cookout will be held during the fair, with proceeds benefitting the Future Farmers of America.
