[ARCHIVED] Stevens Point to Celebrate Arbor Day

Stevens Point officials will mark Arbor Day with a special tree planting scheduled for 11:00 a.m.on Thursday, April 28 at Forest Cemetery. A fourth grade class from St. Paul’s Lutheran School will help Mayor Andrew Halverson plant eighteen trees.

Stevens Point officials will mark Arbor Day with a special tree planting scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 28 at Forest Cemetery. A fourth grade class from St. Paul’s Lutheran School will help Mayor Andrew Halverson plant eighteen trees by the green maintenance building in the cemetery. Representatives from the Audubon Society will also be in attendance.

This year’s tree planting will concentrate on a variety of trees that are an important to wildlife.

The National Arbor Day Association has recognized the City of Stevens Point as a Tree City USA for the 30th year, and has awarded Stevens Point its eleventh Tree City USA Growth Award. To qualify to be a Tree City USA, municipalities must have a Tree Board, adopt a Community Tree Ordinance, have Community Forestry Program, and have an Arbor Day Celebration. The Growth Award was created to recognize environmental improvements and higher levels of tree care in Tree City USA communities.
