An official dedication will be made June 1 at 10:30 AM during the biennial Airshow at the Stevens Point Municipal Airport, which was named "Mattson Field" in January. Conrad E. Mattson, a Stevens Point native, was Wisconsin’s first Jet Ace.
Mattson was a local individual, is a local hero, and is also a national hero. He was the first Wisconsin pilot to score 5 aerial victories, with the majority in jet aircraft. Firsts in aviation harbor a great source of pride for the flying and non-flying community alike. Stevens Point is fortunate to have the privilege of claiming such an influential pilot as one of our own. Mayor Halverson will direct the dedication, and representatives from the Wisconsin Aviation Hall of Fame will be speaking to Conrad’s achievements in aviation.
