Wisconsin Emergency Management and the National Weather Service are
sponsoring Tornado & Severe Weather Awareness Week from April 11 – 15.

Locally, Portage County schools, businesses and government agencies will participate in the statewide communications drill on Thursday, April 14. A test TORNADO WATCH will be issued at approximately 1:00 PM followed by a test TORNADO WARNING at approximately 1:10-1:15 PM.

As in the past, at the time of the simulated TORNADO WARNING all County and City sirens will be activated and tested. Please inform the public of this activity.

Portage County schools are being encouraged to participate by evacuating their classrooms and sheltering students in their pre-designated locations. Other facilities will also participate in the drill, as they feel necessary. If local citizens want additional information on Tornado preparedness, please reference the websites for the National Weather Service, American Red Cross, or Wisconsin Emergency Management.
