[ARCHIVED] Riverfront Arts Center to be Re-Named to Honor Annette & Dale Schuh

The Riverfront Arts Center has moved one step closer to honoring retired Sentry Insurance board chairman Dale Schuh and his wife, Annette. The name change was approved by the Parks Commission and by the Common Council at its Monday, September 16 meeting.

Mayor Andrew Halverson says the official name change to the Annette and Dale Schuh Riverfront Arts Center will take effect on December 17, 2013.

“Annette and Dale Schuh are passionate and committed supporters of the Stevens Point and Central Wisconsin arts community,” Halverson said. “This is a fitting way to thank them for their efforts to make this community a better place to live; with great access to culture and the arts.”

Halverson added, “The impact of Dale as the CEO and board chairman of our largest employer will be felt here for many years, and this honor is a wonderful way of us to always continually recognize the Schuhs.”

Sentry Insurance and the City will share the cost of changing center signs and materials. To that end, the Sentry Insurance Foundation will make a $35,000 contribution for continued operation, support and maintenance of the center.

A former Stevens Point Area High School art teacher, Annette Schuh is an accomplished artist whose work has been displayed at the center and across Wisconsin. Sentry hosted and sponsored art shows and sponsored the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point students’ annual art show.

Additionally, the Sentry Insurance Invitation to the Arts was created under Schuh’s leadership. This program, a partnership between the Sentry Insurance Foundation with the College of Fine Arts and Communication at UW-Stevens Point, gives local students – from grade school through college – opportunities to interact with outstanding professionals in the fine arts. The program is in its ninth year.
