[ARCHIVED] Falls Prevention Awareness Day Falls Prevention Month and Sept. 22 is Falls Prevention Awareness Day. The Aging & Disability Resource Ctr./Lincoln Ctr. and Po. Co. Live Well Live Long Coalition will host a Falls Prevention Awareness Day on Mon. Sept. 23, 2013 from 10 am – 2 pm.

Coalition members will showcase a variety of things you can do to prevent falls. At 11 am, Steve Schultz from Happy Feet Shoes will demonstrate how shoes help us to prevent falls. At 1 pm, the Stevens Point Fire and Ambulance Department will discuss getting up from a fall.

This year’s theme, Preventing Falls - One Step at a Time, seeks to unite professionals, older adults, caregivers, and family members to play a part in raising awareness and preventing falls in the older adult population. The chances of falling and of being seriously injured in a fall increase with age. The good news is falls are not a normal part of aging. Most falls can be prevented and everyone has the power to reduce their risk.

The Aging and Disability Resource Center encourages seniors and their families to take proactive steps to prevent falls and stay independent for as long as possible. Join them for a FREE fun-filled day with guest speakers, displays, informational booths, refreshments and prizes.
