[ARCHIVED] Senator Lassa Comments Regarding Transit Facility

Unable to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Stevens Point Transit Facility, Senator Julie Lassa wrote to the Transit Director to "wholeheartedly commend you and the City of Stevens Point for your dedicated commitment to public transportation."

"Public transit in the City of Stevens Point has been a vital part of the community since 1949. In its nearly 65 years, Stevens Point public transit it has grown significantly and now provides transportation to approximately 280,000 every year. The service the transit department provides includes the City of Stevens Point, the Village of Whiting, the Crossroad Commons in Plover and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus," Lassa said in her letter.

"Throughout the years I have been proud to have such well-maintained public transit system in our community. I am also pleased to congratulate the Stevens Point Transit Department on the completion of this wonderful new facility that could potentially serve as the future hub for a coordinated city and county-wide public transportation effort. In addition, the prospect of inter-city bus routes linking the communities of Stevens Point, Wausau, Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids, Merrill and Mosinee is another exciting possibility with this new facility."

She continued, "Congratulations again on the completion of the new Stevens Point Transit Facility. I applaud you and the City of Stevens Point for your determination and commitment to continue to provide high quality public transportation in our area both now and in the future."
