Stevens Point officials will mark Arbor Day with a tree planting at 10 a.m., Thurs., May 2, at McGlachlin Park. A third grade class from Washington School will help Mayor Halverson plant eighteen trees on the southwest corner of Soo Marie and Main St.
This year's tree planting is made possible with help from donations and volunteers from the Aldo Leopold Audubon Society, Wisconsin Public Service, Noon Lions Club, and Travel Guard.
The planting will concentrate on a variety of trees that can tolerate drought.
The National Arbor Day Association has recognized the City of Stevens Point as a Tree City USA for the 32nd year. To qualify to be a Tree City USA, municipalities must have a Tree Board, adopt a Community Tree Ordinance, have Community Forestry Program, and have an Arbor Day Celebration.
