[ARCHIVED] Ellis St. Reconstruction Public Information Meeting Feb. 6

The City will hold an informational meeting on Wed., Feb. 6 at 5:30 pm in the Jefferson School Gym/Cafe. Rm. 146, at 1800 East Ave. The City will reconstruct Ellis between Division & Michigan near the beginning of May. Ellis will be closed to all traffic.

The City of Stevens Point will be reconstructing Ellis Street between Division Street and Michigan Avenue. This project will involve replacing the old sanitary, storm sewers, water main and reconstruction of the street including curbs and sidewalks. All intersections between Division Street and Michigan Avenue will receive updated ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant curb ramps. The project is anticipated to start around the beginning of May, 2013.

Ellis Street will be closed to thru-traffic during construction and access to properties or driveways will be restricted or unavailable during portions of construction. Garbage and recycling will change but we do not anticipate any disruption in mail delivery. Residents will be notified by mail prior to any changes in mail delivery or garbage and recycling pickup.

All property owners on Ellis Street will receive notice of possible special assessments for the replacement of non-standard sanitary, storm or water services. Typical non-standard materials are clay sanitary or storm sewer laterals and galvanized water service laterals. Property owners with nonstandard laterals will be required to upgrade to new materials in the street (the area between the center line of Ellis Street and the sidewalk in front of your property). The cost to upgrade is assessed to the property owner. The assessment estimate for a sanitary and water service is $2,550.00. Assessment notices will be mailed to all property owners that front on this project after the project is bid and actual costs are known. If during construction, sewer and water lateral materials are inspected and found to be acceptable; you will not be assessed. Acceptable materials for sewer and water services are cast iron or PVC materials. If you wish to replace your service from the sidewalk to the house at the same time, please coordinate this work with a private contractor or licensed plumber.

The City of Stevens Point will be holding an informational meeting on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. at Jefferson School in the Gym/Cafeteria Room 146, located at 1800 East Avenue.
