City Actions to Minimize Risk of Exposure and Slow Spread of COVID-19

  • All non-essential City travel has been suspended until further notice.
  • All non-essential City meetings have been postponed until further notice. Essential meetings will be held online. Details will be presented with each agenda.
  • Public interaction with City offices will be limited until further notice, as outlined below:

Assessor’s Office

  • The office is closed to the public until further notice.
  • All assessing site inspections have been suspended at this time. Staff retains the ability to adjust these inspections as deemed appropriate by the Director of Community Development or his designee.

Building Inspection 

  • The office is closed to the public until further notice.
  • The public is highly encouraged to take photos and videos and email them to the proper inspector to reduce the number of field inspections at this time.
  • All in-home residential inspections will still be required to call in to schedule an inspection. Administrative staff will ask if any resident in the home is susceptible to immune system disorders or situations that may put them in a higher-risk of infection of COVID-19. Such susceptibility may include, but are not limited to: pregnancy, those over 60, those with an existing compromised immune system, those experiencing or those who recently experienced sickness. If so, staff will schedule an inspection 8 to 12 weeks from the date of request. Staff retains the ability to adjust those inspections as deemed appropriate by the Director of Community Development or his designee.
  • Those who request an inspection and do not have any resident of the home subject to the limitation above will be added to the inspection schedule per normal operating procedures. Staff retains the ability to adjust these inspections as deemed appropriate by the Director of Community Development or his designee.
  • All exterior residential inspections will still be required to call in to schedule an inspection. Exterior residential inspections will continue per normal operating procedures. Staff retains the ability to adjust these inspections as deemed appropriate by the Director of Community Development or his designee.
  • All commercial inspections will still be required to call in to schedule an inspection. Commercial inspections will continue per normal operating procedures. Staff retains the ability to adjust these inspections as deemed appropriate by the Director of Community Development or his designee.
  • Those who need to apply for permits are instructed to do so online at: https://cityview.stevenspoint.com/cityviewportal/ and are encouraged to pay online as well, following the steps outlined in the permitting process.

Central Transportation

  • The office building is closed to the public until further notice.
  • City fixed routes and City Paratransit is currently maintaining normal operations. 
  • Cleaning protocols have been enhanced to ensure all frequently-touched surfaces on vehicles and in our facility are disinfected daily.
  • Rural routes will only provide home delivered meals - all other rural services are suspended. 
  • The Volunteer Driver program is operating as normal.

    City Fixed Route Bus Service Changes
  • Passenger fare collection has been suspended (rides are free) until further notice.
  • Passengers must board and disembark the bus using the rear door if possible.  Exceptions will be made for individuals in wheelchairs or passengers who are unable to climb the step and need the bus lowered.
  • Passengers should maintain a distance of 6 feet from the driver and fellow passengers if possible.
  • Please limit your use of the City bus to essential trips only, such as medical, employment and nutritional purposes.

City Clerk and Voting

  • The City Clerk’s office will remain OPEN to the public.  
  • Regular office hours are Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Apply for Licenses Online Downloaded, print, and mail the forms and fees to the Clerk’s Office (Bartenders, Direct Sellers, Food Peddler, etc.)

City Planning/Zoning Administration/Economic Development

  • The office is closed to the public until further notice.
  • Exterior inspections will continue per normal operating procedure. Staff retains the ability to adjust these inspections as deemed appropriate by the Director of Community Development or his designee.

Comptroller Treasurer

  • The service counter window for the City Treasurer’s office is closed until further notice.
  • Payments can be deposited in the drop-box on the office door.  Exact change is required for cash payments.  
  • All drop-box transactions will be processed the following business day.  
  • Payments can continue to be made either through the mail or online.
  • Treasury staff are still available to answer questions over the phone at 715-346-1573.

Fire Department

  • Access to the two fire stations by the public and City personnel is limited to only essential workforce.
  • The Department has suspended all Public Education Events, Fire Inspections, and Public Blood Pressure Screenings.  
  • All Burning Permits are suspended until further notice, to limit the chance of fires and preventable contact between first responders and the public.
  • If you are in need of non-emergent items such as a burning permit, please call ahead and we will assist you with getting the permit filled out by appointment only.
  • The Department is responding to all Non-Emergent and Emergent calls.

Municipal Court

  • The following are temporary and only effective from March 16 - May 30, 2020, or upon further order of the Court:
  • There will be no trials held on, or before, May 30, 2020. 
  • All trials currently scheduled prior to May 30, 2020 will be rescheduled.
  • All traffic, ordinance, and juvenile initial appearance dates are suspended until after May 30, 2020. Any previously filed citations will be adjourned to a date and time beyond May 30, 2020 .
  • Pretrial conferences will be held exclusively via phone. The defendant is responsible for contacting the City or Village on the date and time set for his/her pretrial conference.
  • All payments must be made online, by US Mail or at the payment drop box at the Municipal Court Office.

  • The Court will not suspend operating privileges for failure to pay fines until after May 30, 2020.

Neighborhood Improvement 

  • The office is closed to the public until further notice.
  • Interior inspections of this Division have been suspended at this time. 
  • Exterior inspections will continue per normal operating procedure. Staff retains the ability to adjust these inspections as deemed appropriate by the Director of Community Development or his designee.
  • Complaints or tips can still be provided through the web portal at https://cityview.stevenspoint.com/cityviewportal/ or by telephone at 715-346-1567 x 1. 
  • Staff will continue to investigate and perform exterior inspections as normal at this time. These inspections may be canceled at the Director of Community Development’s discretion at any time.

Parks, Recreation and Forestry

  • The Rec Center, K.B. Willett Arena, and the Riverfront Arts Center are closed to the public until further notice.
  • Gymnasium rentals, rec center meeting room rentals, Riverfront Art Center gallery hours, and KB Willett Arena ice and facility usage are suspended.
  • User groups/events that have a facility rented during this closure will be granted a full refund if requested and we will be relaxing our processing fee policy to process refunds.
  • City parks will remain open to the public. We recommend visitors follow guidelines from the CDC and County Health Department for coming in contact with other people while using the City park system during this time. 
  • Forms for reservations, registrations, parties and special events are available online and can be mailed in, emailed in or dropped off.
  • Completed forms can be placed in the drop box located on the door just east (to the right) of the gymnasium at 2442 Sims Avenue for all Parks, Recreation, and Forestry business. Forms for the Riverfront Art Center and Willett Arena should also be dropped off at this location.

Personnel Department

Police Department

  • The service counter window is closed to the public until further notice. 
  • If you need to pay a parking ticket, you can pay the ticket online or place the ticket with payment in the payment drop box in the foyer of the Police Department at entrance #1 (front door).
  • If you need to speak to an officer and you come to the Police Department, you can still use the intercom system located in the foyer to speak to dispatch.  
  • All fingerprinting and prescription drop off is unavailable until further notice.  
  • If you need a copy of an accident report, you can get a free copy at crashdocs.org
  • If you need a copy of a police report, you can call our records department at 715-346-1506 and we will accommodate your request by fax, mail or email.

Water and Wastewater

  • All in-home appointments are suspended until further notice.

  • Payments can be made through our website stevenspoint.com/water, by calling our office, or using our night depository located at 300 Bliss Ave.
  • Due to the proclamation declaring a health emergency, we have been directed to cease disconnecting water service to occupied dwellings for non-payment.
  • Stevens Point Municipal water is safe to drink and there should be no concern in consuming or using your tap water.
